Event Educates Seniors About Scam Prevention

CLOQUET, Minn. — This Saturday is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, and local business are making sure seniors can protect themselves from potential harm.

As technology and social media advances, older people can become victims to scams. Wednesday, Northwoods Credit Union and Reliable Insurance Agency teamed up to host the 3rd annual Senior Day in Cloquet. Seniors were educated on how they can prevent scams. And there was also food trucks, live speakers and prize drawings for people 60 plus.

“Unfortunately with all of our social media growing bigger in the world, there’s somethings out there that might be hard for even the younger generation to know if it’s spam or not,” said Kara Thell, an insurance agent at Reliable Insurance Agency. “So we’re here to try and help and just be there for them to guide them through this journey.”

Reliable Insurance Agency and Northwoods Credit Union say anyone call them and ask questions regarding spam emails and scam protection.
