Seawall Work To Detour Marathon Spectators
DULUTH, Minn. — One of the most popular spots to watch Grandma’s Marathon for the home stretch won’t be available to spectators this year.
Harbor drive behind the DECC will be closed off from spectators looking to watch that final stretch before the finish line. Currently, Harbor Drive is under a multi-million dollar seawall construction. Pedestrians and spectators will have to route through the DECC parking lot to get between Canal Park and Bayfront.
“To help with that we’ve included a couple more activations on our part,” said Zach Schneider, the Marketing & Public Relations Director for Grandma’s Marathon. “We’ve installed a new cheer plaza in the parking lot across from the William A. Irvin ore boat. So hopefully that’s where people enjoy and inject some of that energy back into the area.”
However, the construction behind the DECC will not affect the runners. The city of Duluth will pave a temporary section of the road and all seawall construction will be paused during race weekend.
