Local Law Enforcement K9s to Receive a Quilt of Honor at Minnesota Quilt Show

DULUTH, Minn. — A quilt is not just a piece of cloth, and a dog is not just a dog.

Dogs hold a special place in many hearts, but one quilt group from Florida is looking to memorialize our four-legged friends that help out alongside the line of duty. K9 Quilt of Honor is a nonprofit organization that aims to honor and memorialize law enforcement and military K9’s. They have a booth set up at the Minnesota Quilt Show that’s happening at the DECC.

Friday at noon, K9 Quilt of Honor will honor Kallie, Vili, and Maverick from Duluth Police Department and Phoenix from St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office. They’re encouraging other quilters to take the time to thank the law enforcement’s bravest comrades by quilting one of their kits. But they hope quilters will honor any dog who’s shown great service or bravery.

“The focus on these quilts are for retirement and loss in the line of duty. But if they do something spectacular we actually like to honor them too,” said the Founder of K9 Quilt of Honor. “We get to honor as many dogs as possible.”

K9 Quilt of Honor has patterns available for the K9s being recognized in our area tomorrow. The Minnesota Quilt Show continues through Saturday.
