First Lady Jill Biden Speaks to Senior Supporters
DULUTH, Minn. — First lady Dr. Jill Biden landing at Monaco Air Duluth yesterday, meeting with Duluth Mayor Roger Reinert and Chairman of the Fond Du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Kevin R. Dupuis as part of her husband’s campaign for the 2024 presidential election.
The Lincoln Park Community Center was filled to capacity Thursday afternoon as Dr. Jill Biden arrived to make her case to seniors about why current President Biden is the only choice for the country. One hundred and fifty people were seated in the main auditorium. An adjacent overflow room was filled with additional supporters. They were all gathered to help the campaign officially launch Seniors for Biden/Harris. Dr. Biden said seniors everywhere must know they have value… and after years of hard work, their social security contributions would not be touched.
“Age is a gift. And yet there are still those who not only devalue our wisdom and dismiss our experience by threatening the social security we have earned,” said the first lady.
She described the many accomplishments of her husband’s campaign, touting President Biden’s kindness, integrity and character. Health care, and it’s importance in the senior community was front and center.
“He capped insulin at thirty five dollars a month for insulin,” the first lady said. “For the first time in history he made sure that Medicare can negotiate prices directly something that other President’s have been trying to do for decades. He strengthened the Affordable Care Act, bringing the uninsured rate lower than any other President has.”
The speech was briefly interrupted twice by protestors bringing attention to Palestinian deaths in Gaza. Dr. Biden paused while they were escorted out of the room and praised a country that openly allows disagreement.
Dr. Biden continued and said the race was not about age. She said the race is about finishing the job President Biden started.
“Joe Biden is willing to work for you every single day to make our future better,” said Jill.
She also said seniors are the nation’s backbone and their years of experience and wisdom are perfectly timed for this moment in history.
“If we are going to bring our experience to meet this moment as if our rights are at risk…because they are,” Jill said. “And if our democracy is on the line… because it is.”
Biden concluded her remarks by encouraging those in attendance to get involved in the campaign in what ever way they can. She concluded by saying with the support of seniors everywhere
saying, “…nothing and no one can stand in our way.”
Dr. Biden will continue her effort to touch the hearts and minds of seniors throughout the country. A demographic sorely needed to get the incumbent President successfully across the finish line.
