New Equipment Boosts Superior Fire Department’s Water Rescue Capabilities
SUPERIOR, Wis. — A partnership between the Superior Fire Department and Cenovus Energy is making the water safer for everyone.
The Superior Fire Department showed off its newest equipment: a jet ski, and a rescue board. These were purchased thanks to the partnership the Fire department has with Cenovus Energy.
This partnership is very important, according to Cameron Vollbrecht, the Superior Fire Chief. The Jet ski and rescue board will allow the fire department to with any event that may take place on the water.
“Partnerships for us are key for us to respond to all the emergencies we have in our community,” said Superior Fire Chief Cameron Volbrecht. “We have a very diverse community, including the oil and gas industry, lots of recreation on our water, lots of recreation in our woods, and having partnerships with folks like Cenovus helps us and provides us with specialized equipment that we may not be able to purchase on our own.”
The manager for Health Safety and Emergency Response at Cenovus, Jeff Savage says the company’s decision to grant the Fire Department the money for his equipment was approved very quickly.
“When we heard from the Fire Department that they actually had a need for this equipment it was really an easy decision for us. Both Superior Fire Department and Cenovus have the same value, protect what matters, so it was a very easy decision to pride the money for this much needed piece of equipment,” said Jeff Savage, Cenovus Energy’s manager for Health, Safety, Emergency Response.
Both men stressed that while it’s good to have the equipment available, they hope it won’t be needed.
“If you’re on the water, on a jet ski, on a paddle board, wear your life jackets,” said Vollbrecht. “Incidents happen on the water, so wear your life jacket.”
It’s important to remember that no matter how deep of whatever you’re swimming to wear a life jacket as they save lives.
