Reactions to Jill Biden’s Visit
DULUTH, Minn. — First lady Dr. Jill Biden landing at Monaco Air Duluth yesterday. The first lady headed to the Lincoln Park Community Center to reach out to older voters while campaigning on behalf of her husband while he is in Italy attending the Group of Seven summit.
“As if our rights are at risk…because they are. As is our democracy is on the line…because it is,” said the first lady Jill Biden. “You’re so good!”
First lady Jill Biden’s Seniors for Biden-Harris speech at the Lincoln Park Community Center was met with applause and several standing ovations. Hundreds gathered to listen to Dr. Biden address senior issues and encourage voting.
After her speech, retired veteran Joel Heller said the First Lady came through with promises to support veterans like himself and seniors like his parents.
“She can give an outstanding speech,” said Heller. “She’s passionate, she was caring. She talked to the people. Like most politicians around in the area she can talk to the soul, to the heart. She talked about senior issues, which is most important cause our population in Minnesota and especially Duluth is increasing.”
Senior Mary Murphy said she was “pretty satisfied” with the First Lady’s speech and she felt inspired afterwards.
“She told how hard Joe Biden works and how whatever we do takes time,” said Murphy. “He’s a hard worker and has been for years. He’s got many years ahead of him.”
Heller added he wished the First Lady had addressed delays Minnesotans have experienced with receiving prescriptions by mail.
“As a veteran, I get my pills shipped to me by the VA. And across the 8th district, across northern Minnesota, the meds are taking longer time to get to individuals,” said Heller.
Heller in the past he has had to wait two weeks for his medicine. Thursday, he said members of the Biden-Harris campaign agreed to sit down with him in the future to discuss his concerns.
The First Lady stayed afterwards to meet supporters and take photos, before leaving for her next stop on the campaign trail.
