New Ice Cream Shop Takes Over 8th Street Video & Ice Cream Station

DULUTH, Minn. — A new ice cream shop is catching the eyes of those in the Lakeside neighborhood.

The Scoop on 47th has been open since June 9. Located in the former 8th Street Video & Ice Cream Station building.

Since new ownership the space was given a facelift with newly painted walls topped with sprinkles. But owners wish to keep previous aspects of 8th Street Video alive.

The ice cream shop offers leftover antiques from the previous business as well as DVDs, CDs, and books.

But owners say that they’re excited to own a shop that their family has been visiting for years.

“I think it’s always been something that our family has always wished, and when the opportunity came we jumped on it,” said Co-owner Matthew Peterson. “My family before I was born we’re Lake-siders. This was also my dad’s favorite place to get ice cream. When we got this opportunity we had a discussion and we were like we just have to do this.”

The Scoop on 47th is open everyday from 11 to 8 p.m.
