Clyde Iron Works likely Closed for the Summer
DULUTH, Minn. — A two-week closure has turned into a three-month closure for Clyde Iron Works Restaurant. As the saying goes, the best-laid plans of mice and men often go away. The owner, Alex Giuliani, says his plans for a fast update did in fact, go aray.
“We looked at everything on Thursday evening and even into Friday. And it became a point where we just, were not ready to put our best forward,” said Giuliani. “You know, it wasn’t fair to the staff that we did have here. And you know, even our customers, you know, we’re so excited with what that new menu was going to be”
For the reopening, an issue he didn’t expect to be a concern, staffing, turned out to be the final stumbling block that led to the extended pause for the restaurant. But Giuliani is quick to say the rest of the property remains open for private events.
“Gosh, no, we’re open. You know we have events tonight. We have events throughout the weekend. So we have our corporate events here. We have a lot of various social gatherings that happen. So no, that not changing,” said Giuliani. “It’s just the dining portion we are you know, we’ve been booked and are still taking bookings.”
The new, nine-room hotel has also been delayed. Shipping delays are to blame as some of the furniture for the rooms is delayed..
Clyde will be opening a second location, although it will serve an entirely different clientele. The new spot is at the end of the canal on the stationary fishing boat. Soon to be christened the SS Clyde.
Giuliani said, “So our Clyde beer will be served on there, along with his root beer. We’ll have some food down there. We’ll have fish and chips. We’ll have our burgers.”.
The SS Clyde will open next Monday and be open seven days a week. Its hours will be from 11 until 8 p.m., each day.
An exact date for reopening the main Clyde restaurant in West Duluth is not yet known.
