Donations Pour in at ALLETE Yellow Ribbon Golf Scramble Despite Rain
$60,000 will go towards the Silver Bay Veterans Home, all thanks to today's event

DULUTH, Minn. — The ALLETE Yellow Ribbon Golf Scramble was scheduled for Friday morning. And while the golf was rained out, the fun was not.
208 golfers were signed up for the event, but morning showers made for a change in plans. Spirits remained high, with plenty of food, games, and prizes to go around.
“We got rained out today,” said Bryan Maslowski, ALLETE Project Development Leader. “No one is golfing. Everyone is here having fun. They’re spending money in our raffle, there here for lunch, they’re networking, they’re playing games. Adapt and overcome, kind of a military thing and everyone is doing it with us.”
The rain didn’t stop donations from pouring in, either. The $60,000 raised today will go towards a new transit vehicle for the Silver Bay Veterans Home. Randall Walz, the home’s public relations coordinator, said this will allow them to do even more for their veterans, like taking them to appointments and community events. He said the veterans are thankful for the support and events like today.
“They’re excited,” Walz said. “They love it. A lot of them were a part of the Duluth community. They might have even worked for a lot of the donors that we have here today. So just to hear that their organizations still care about them, still support them, it just makes them feel real good. It makes us all feel real good. So its just great to see that support continue in our community.”
The Golf Scrambles impact has continued to grow, with sponsorships tripling over the past six years. Last year, they raised $35,000 for Fortitude Service Dogs. This year, the donation to Silver Bay Veterans Home surpasses that by $25,000. Organizers said they’re optimistic the event will continue to grow and that next year they’ll be back out on the course.
