The DECC’s First-Ever Taco Festival Sees A Great Turnout
DULUTH, Minn. — It was a taco extravaganza on Saturday, as hundreds of people lined up for The DECC’s first-ever Duluth Taco Festival.
The DECC’s kitchen crafted up 20 different varieties of tacos. From savory variation’s such as Greek and Southwest, to even breakfast and dessert tacos.
The Taco Fest saw a great turnout, general admission tickets included six tacos of any style. VIP tickets included unlimited access to the traditional Mexican dish.
There was also signature margaritas and live music at the festival.
“There is actually a cheesecake taco over there, So I will probably save that for the end for my dessert taco,” said John D’Auria, taco fest attendee. “But like I said, I like spicy so I’m looking for ones that have a little bit of spice, some jalapeño to them. So far I’ve had one of those and I’m going to look for a few more.”
Ahead of the day of the event, the Taco Festival drew some criticism for not including any local Mexican restaurants.
“My personal opinion and there was some people on Facebook too, that would’ve preferred that some of the local Mexican restaurants were involved with the taco fest in the Twin Ports,” said D’Auria. “And hopefully the DECC can get with them and maybe next year they can involve them. But other than that it seems like a great turnout.”
The DECC posted a lengthy statement on its social media in response to the criticism.
The statement said the fest is really a way to help support the kitchen staff during the slower summer months, but that Taco Fest will only break even.
The statement continued in saying that including local food trucks and restaurants would have increased the cost to produce the fest.
