Split Rock Lighthouse Offering New Tours, Telling The Story Of The Landmark
TWO HARBORS, Minn. — The Split Rock Lighthouse is offering a new tour giving people a different perspective on why it is there.
The guided tour is called Conquering the Cliff. It takes guests on a journey of how the landmark was built in 1910 and what it was like to live there. Back then there was no Highway 61, so everything had to be brought over the cliff or by boat. They came up with the name of the tour for that reason.
“We wanted people to get this idea when they were buying that. That ‘oh what does that mean’ like ‘what’s this all about.’ And really as they go through the tour it is literally how the people that were building the site and living here conquered that cliff to make it a home and make it a place of work. So, really that’s what it is,” said Hayes Scriven, Site Manager at the Split Rock Lighthouse.
Tours are 60 minutes long and happen twice daily. They are offered through the end of October.
