Rose Fest 2024 Celebrates Duluth’s Summer Blooms
Visitors enjoyed the gardens and learned more about roses from the Lake Superior Rose Society
DULUTH, Minn. — Saturday was Rose Fest at Duluth’s Rose Garden and people from all over came to celebrate.
The free event featured guided tours, classes on selecting, growing, and arranging roses, and even a treasure hunt for kids. The Leif Erikson Rose Garden is maintained by the City of Duluth and the Lake Superior Rose Society, a volunteer organization which began in 1996. Today, people from as far as Germany and as close as Duluth itself enjoyed the perennial flowers along the lakefront.
“The Duluthians themselves love this garden,” said Superior Rose Society Co-President Carol Borich. “And that really speaks to how the people here feel about their garden. We are proud to be taking care of it and we take it seriously.”
According to Borich, Rose Fest is a celebration of months of work. Volunteers raise the roses in April, deadhead spent blooms in the summer, and winterize the roses in October — all so the community can enjoy the garden and their roses.
