Jessica Lindstrom Enjoying Pro Hoops Offseason

Entering seventh season playing overseas

SUPERIOR, Wis.- Spartans legend and all-time leading scorer Jessica Lindstrom is happy to be back home following her sixth pro basketball season overseas.

Since 2019, Lindstrom has played in the Belgian Women’s Basketball League (Kangoeroes Basket Mechelen 2019-21, BC Castors Braine 2021-24). However, the 28-year-old says she plans to play in another European league once she returns to the continent in August.

Lindstrom says the style of play in Europe is a lot different than what you might expect in the United States.

“I would say it’s more aggressive,” she says. “I would say they let more things go in comparison to college, at least. I also think that it’s more fundamental in passing in comparison to maybe the WNBA. They’re very, very athletic in the WNBA. I think overseas is more about moving the ball around a bit and you have your scorers and whatnot, but (in) the WNBA, they can all score. So that’s why it’s a little bit different.”

Off the court, living in a different country where English isn’t the main language was also something Lindstrom had to get used to during the basketball season.

“It’s definitely different. There (are) definitely some language barrier aspects to it. Grocery shopping especially…It’s in French where I was, so you’ve kind of had to decipher what’s what. But honestly, for the most part, the people are so nice, and they’re so willing to ask you your story and things like that. I’ve been humbled a lot in Europe as well…We know Walmart, we know Super One, we know all the places to go — and then there, it’s something very different. I had to relearn a lot of that.”

Lindstrom is spending her offseason training high school basketball players at Superior High School through Salo’s Showcase, which you can learn more about by clicking here.
