Self Driving Car Company Benefits Grand Rapids Community

GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. — A useful service has made its mark in Grand Rapids.

Accessibility is something we strive to get more of in society. Something as simple as getting a ride to the grocery store can be a difficult task for some. This company is working on changing this issue. May Mobility’s goMARTI service has driven over 10,000 riders. They were also able to operate in challenging winter weather, proving its ability to help a community. And with that, they had a calling for this service.

“We had a strong advocate community in the wheelchair community in Grand Rapids.” said May Mobility site manager Jon Dege. “And those folks reached out to transportation companies trying to find solutions for just moving people.”

The rides they offer are free thanks to a grant they received. This company has made its mark, and because of their service, people can be more involved with hobbies.

“I’ve heard stories from people, particularly students, that weren’t going to take music lessons or play sports because they didn’t have rides.” said Dege. “And then they found out about our service, and then they were able to start participating in those activities.”

May Mobility is undergoing a three-year extension, and with that brings a bigger map expansion. They will soon be able to access areas like the college, food bank and Walmart. They are always looking for suggestions for locations they can access in the future.
