Community Celebration for 34th Americans with Disabilities Act Anniversary

SUPERIOR, Wis. — An event in Superior showed how our community helps individuals with disabilities.

There were lots to celebrate Tuesday afternoon with the 34th Americans with Disabilities Act anniversary. Guests had the opportunity to become more informed about the disability community. It was an environment for learning, connecting, and growing. There were booths that brought awareness to topics ranging from accessible tools for daily activities, and adaptive outdoor gear. Getting informed about accessible resources is especially important.

We have a demonstration loan program of assistive technology,” said Jill Nyberg, indiGO Executive Director.  “Anything from really low tech to high tech, to an action track chair. And people don’t know that these resources are out there. It’s a great opportunity, in a fun setting.”

Every booth at this event had the same end goal. To get folks involved, and informed, about how businesses help in their own unique way. One of those businesses being.

“You know, we are an outdoor community here in the Northland,” said Mark Hanna, Northland Adaptive Program Specialist.  “And we want to make sure everyone has access, and the opportunity to get outdoors. Again, sometimes it’s a piece of adaptive equipment. Sometimes, it’s just needing a little supervision.

This is the second year this event took place. They’re hoping for people to become more aware of the resources they can take advantage of to change their lives.
