Rice Lake Road Corridor Project Begins in Duluth

DULUTH, Minn. — After a decade of planning nearly $35 million has been secured for the Rice Lake Road Corridor Project.

The money is coming from federal and state governments. The Rice Lake Road Corridor acts as a key commuter, and trucking route for the Duluth metro area. Crews will be reconstructing Rice Lake, Martin and Calvary roads.

Officials say roundabouts, and other intersection improvements will increase traffic capacity. The project is focused on supporting private investments in commercial, and residential developments.

“St. Louis County and the City of Rice Lake’s Project vision is to protect the function of Rice Lake Road as an important transportation corridor. Supporting commuters to the Duluth area. And traffic to the east range, so going both ways,” said Jim Foldesi, St. Louis County Public Works Director.

County officials say the project is expected to reduce the risk of serious and fatal injury crashes by about 52%.
