Duluth Public Schools Partner with St. Louis County to Launch Pilot Program at Lowell Elementary
DULUTH, Minn. — Duluth Public Schools is coming up with a plan to reduce traffic congestion and improve safety at one of their growing elementary schools.
Lowell Elementary School is located on Rice Lake Road and during pick up and drop off times gets very busy. Duluth Public Schools is partnering with St. Louis County to launch a comprehensive pilot program to help. The plan includes new drop-off and pick up locations, new directional signs, a school bus exit strategy, and improving visibility by clearing brush and vegetation.
“But really there are other things that take more time. Thinking about a speed study, thinking about traffic lights, thinking about potential roundabouts. All of that is really important. And really, when we think about that part of town, it’s really developing. You see a lot of development apartments, a lot of development of commercial space and with that comes more traffic,” said Superintendent John Magas, Duluth Public Schools.
Duluth Public Schools and St. Louis County welcome community feedback throughout the new pilot program. Safety is the main focus of this project.
