4th Annual Agate Festival Returns to Support Duluth MakerSpace

DULUTH, Minn. — Ursa Minor Brewing was the place to find agates this weekend for the 4th Annual Gitchee Gumee Agate Festival.

Duluth MakerSpace and Ursa Minor partnered, to host this year’s festival.

People enjoyed food, beer, raffle drawings, and live music; all while shopping fort agate-based artwork created by vendors.

All the artworks were made from agates found around the Lake Superior region and surrounding areas.

All proceeds from the festival went to support the Duluth MakerSpace, a nonprofit community workshop that offers a creative space for other artisans to further their skills.

“Really unique thing about our festival, we try to keep the vending fee down. But all of the vending fees do go back to Duluth MakerSpace. They are donated to Duluth MakerSpace. But one of the things we ask of the vendors is that they donate an item for the raffle,” said Lapidary Co-Manager Abby Schaefer, with the MakerSpace.

“We have a tiny budget. We have bills like everyone else. This is our major fundraiser of the year. Come out, support vendors, if you miss it this year come go it next year,” said Mike Olson, the director of the MakerSpace.
