Superior Football Energized by New Head Coach
Spartans finished 0-9 in 2023
SUPERIOR, Wis.- New Superior Head Football Coach Rob Scott admittedly feels at home as he prepares his players for the 2024 season.
Scott is taking over for Bob DeMeyer, who retired after 18 years coaching the Spartans. Scott served as Eau Claire Memorial’s head coach since 2021. Before then, he was an assistant for the Spartans, along with the director for the Spartan Youth Football League.
“I spent a lot of time here, my family spent a lot of time here. It became home, we fell in love,” says Scott. “When I left, my heart never really left. I head a great experience in Eau Claire, met a lot of great people. But I’m a Spartan at heart, and when this opportunity came, it was everything that I ever dreamed of.”
Meanwhile, returning players say they’ve been working out throughout the offseason and are motivated by Coach Scott’s arrival.
“He brings a fast energetic sort of energy, making sure there’s energy going from place to place whether it’s meeting to the weight room, or weight room to here, whatever it is, just keeping us energized.” Described Tanner Leno, a senior quarterback/kicker for the Spartans.
“When you lose all nine games, it’s not, it’s not something you want to see,” admits Garet Rivord, a senior lineman. “So, I think two weeks after (the season) we were in working again, and so we wanted to see a good outcome this year. We all got a lot closer and now we’re ready to put out.”
The Spartans open their 2024 season on Friday, August 23 against Wausau West at NBC Spartan Sports Complex.
