Duluth City Hall Encampment Cleared out, Two Arrested

DULUTH, Minn. — The three-month encampment outside Duluth City Hall has been officially cleared out as of Wednesday, August 7. Two individuals were arrested for the charge of obstructing.

As reported earlier this week, the encampment was given a seven-day notice to vacate after the area was declared a public health and safety risk.

Tuesday marked the seventh day, but tents and people still remained onsite.

On Wednesday, members of the camp gathered their things and moved out with the direction and assistance of local law enforcement.

“This morning around 6, we saw the cars coming. They moved in very peacefully and said, ‘You’ve got to get up and take whatever you can.’ Take your stuff, pack, and go, basically,” said Civic Center Encampment Member Francois Medion.

The encampment began in May as a protest to the war in Gaza. It later expanded to include individuals experiencing homelessness.

A portion of Priley Circle will be closed temporarily while City staff work to restore the grounds.

Members of the Life Safety Team, DPD, and community outreach partners are coordinating to assist those in need.
