“Within the Waves” Exhibit Washes into Duluth Gallery

DULUTH, Minn. — The newest addition to the Joseph Nease Fine Art Gallery opened its doors on Thursday.

A local artist was given the opportunity to show off Lake Superior in a whole new way. Artist Craig Blacklock has his art pieces on display in Duluth.

This gallery on display is called Within the Waves. Folks gathered Thursday for the grand opening of this exhibit. The art showcases four movements, which were originally meant for his book, “Abstract Photographs of Reflections from Lake Superior.”

Blacklock says he has a unique technique to accomplish these pieces of art.

“These all started out as photographs on waves on Lake Superior,” said Blacklock. “I created these images by taking very small portions out of the original image and I’m using artificial intelligence software to enlarge and sharpen the images.”

A lot of Blacklock’s art was completed during the pandemic. This is the first time this art has been displayed in person.

“Up until creating these, on paper, I’m looking at them as pixels on a computer screen. And now I’m looking at a nine-by-nine piece on the wall,” said Blacklock.

This exhibit will be anchored at The Joseph Nease Fine Arts Gallery until September 28th. That Gallery always has new exhibits rotating in.
