Annual Kids, Cops, and Cars Event In Duluth
DULUTH, Minn. — Hundreds of kids and a whole lot of cops taking over Bayfront Festival Park.
But nobody’s done anything wrong here. The Kids, Cops and Cars event is put on by the Duluth Police Department every year. It’s a way for officers to make positive connections with the city’s youngest and their families.
“I think it’s important to have the community come down here and be able to see a familiar face. So, if we do respond to a call for service in the future, they’ll be comfortable with us. Know they interacted with us in the past,” said Officer Skylar Tomlin, Duluth Police Department.
Duluth police cruisers and equipment from other law enforcement agencies were on display for kids to explore. And their K9s were even off duty to get in on the fun.
For one grandmother, she wants her grandchildren to become familiar with the police.
“Well, I don’t want them to be afraid of the police officers, and I want them to just know that they’re good, they saw the dogs,” said Kathy Currie, grandmother.
It’s just one day of fun between these youngsters and Duluth police but one officers hope will truly last a lifetime.
“I think it’s good to make the connection with people and the community, and actually have conversations with them. And show them what we do behind the scenes,” said Officer Tomlin.
