Saint Louis County Unveils New Snowplow Prototype
CULVER, Minn.– Soon enough, the days will get colder and colder. And with that, we will begin to see the snow and ice make its yearly return. Right on time, the Saint Louis County Public Works invested in some upgrades.
The roads will see a new addition this winter to their fleet of snowplow trucks. This $330,000 dollar snowplow comes with a low glare hood, heated lenses on the headlights and grip sensors on the tires to measure the slickness of the roads.
This truck was funded through taxpayers. All of these upgrades are necessary for efficient and faster snow removal.
“If you climbed up into the cab of one of these trucks, there are buttons and switches everywhere. Computers, on board cameras. And these features we’re adding is making it more efficient for our operators to plow snow in very difficult conditions, and not think about what they’re doing,” explained Chad Skelton, the fleet and property manager.
If all goes well with this prototype snowplow, they’re hoping to add more like it to their lineup in the future.
