UMD Chancellor Charles Nies Welcomes Staff Back to Campus
DULUTH, Minn. — UMD’s newest leader welcomed faculty and staff back to campus on Monday.
Chancellor Charles Nies has been working at the campus for about 50 days now. He thanked staff for being there and spoke about his goals for the university as he eases into his new role. Nies says enrollment trends are a little higher than last year. His hopes are to keep UMD’s mission alive.
“That opportunity to provide that close relationship that our students have with their faculty members. That they are doing research, and they’re volunteering in the community, they’re getting really strong internships and apply opportunities to learn about how to be career ready. And so, part of what I’m excited about was that message that UMD has been doing a great job and we continue to do really great work at this remarkable institution,” said Chancellor Nies.
Students will move back into the university on Wednesday. School is back in session August 26th.
