Wheelchair & Walker Wash Raises Money for Alzheimer’s

DULUTH, Minn. – When was the last time you washed your car? Or better yet your wheelchair?

The staff at the Pillars held a wheelchair and walker wash to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s disease.

Staff there say that many folks are unable to maintain cleaning on their mobility devices.

Bikes and scooters were also welcomed.

All proceeds from the wheelchair walker wash will go towards the Alzheimer’s Association and staff say that they are always accepting donations.

“We are an assisted-living, independent, and memory-care community so we do have 20 apartments here at the Pillars that are memory care and Alzheimer’s specific, so of course it’s near and dear to our hearts,” said Nikoletta Buystrzycka, executive director at the Pillars. “We work with these folks every day and their families, so we really witness first-hand what the disease does to a family and how it impacts everybody. So, it’s very, very special to us and we just want to continue on searching for a cure and getting the research that’s necessary.”

A silent auction was also held inside the Pillars.
