UMD Welcomes Students Back To Campus

Duluth, Minn. — UMD’s Welcome Week kicked off with new and returning students beginning moving into on-campus accommodations. While the process can be chaotic, faculty and staff volunteers welcome students and their families.

Joe Hazelton, UMD’s Director for Housing & Development, said the university is working to make the transition to campus life as seamless as possible. When asked what his message to students is, Hazelton said, “Enjoy the moment, enjoy the ride. You’re gonna do great.”

For father Biff Ulm and his son Gus, an incoming freshman, the move-in process has changed since Biff’s days as a student. “It’s so different than when my wife and I went to school. We’re both UMD grads, and we moved ourselves in and so, yeah, it’s really, really nice to have this community and just have people here to help and welcome him.”

The remainder of UMD’s Welcome Week will include planned festivities and activities to help students familiarize themselves with the campus community.
