Mesabi Trails Sees Spike in Popularity
EVELETH, Minn. — One of Minnesota’s largest trails has been gaining popularity.
The St. Louis & Lake Counties Regional Railroad Authority has been tracking the number of new people hiking along Mesabi Trail.
The 165-mile trail has seen upwards of 140,000 users so far in 2024.
The trail has is one of the longest paved trails in the United States.
In the last 30 years, the trail has supported many community events. One popular event being the Great River Energy Mesabi Trail Tour.
On September 19 through 21, Club Mesabi will be holding the Tomassoni Tour. A memorial bike from the late Minnesota Senator David Tomassoni who helped bring the Mesabi Trail to fruition.
