Friday Morning Northland Forecast: 8/30/2024

A Sunny Labor Day Weekend

There was quite a build up for severe storm potential yesterday. But all we got out of it in Duluth was a little bit of thunder and lightning, and a grand total of .15″ of rain. Underwhelming, to say the least. But as I mentioned yesterday, the positive side of that is we got the inclement weather out of the way before our big Labor Day Holiday weekend! Saturday is the last day of August. Monday is the final day of the Minnesota State Fair. And, it looks like the weather will be perfect for the entire weekend!

The low pressure that brought us the rain yesterday has now moved to our east, and is being replaced by a huge area of high pressure. It is so big, that it’s safe to forecast sunny skies and quiet conditions all the way to the end of next week! The one factor that we will feel are very strong winds for the next two days. The pressure gradient between the low pulling away to the east, and the high moving in from the west will produce west winds up to 25 mph today, and southwest winds up to 30mph on Saturday. As the high takes control, things will settle down on Sunday, with lighter west winds, 10-15mph. While it will be mainly clear skies from today thru next Thursday, there is a slight chance for rain late on Saturday. About a 30% chance. But, I see that as a 70% chance for no rain, so I would go ahead and keep any outdoor plans you have for Saturday.

So, consider the weather for this weekend a win, and have a great Labor Day Holiday!
