Iron Range Author Releases New Book
DULUTH, Minn. — A local author stopped by the Fox 21 studio to discuss their new book, ‘Walks Through Hell.’
The book by Dr. Chad Scott takes readers through dark tourism destinations while bringing in his own life experiences. He also describes it as a self-help book of sorts. It looks at the transformative aspects of visiting these places, especially looking through the lens of one’s own personal tragedies.
“So, the book is about these historical places where tragedies happened, deaths occurred. Or you know going through places where cemeteries, and places like that where we are there to honor and reflect but they’re places also associated with death because of the you know. So, they all fit in under the dark tourism umbrella. So, what I did was took these places with historical tragedy and weaved my personal story of like a heartbreaking divorce and my illness and liver transplant and I weaved it in and out and also added how it could impact you as the reader in these places,” said Scott.
Scott had a liver transplant last March and dedicated the book to the transplant donor. He credits his recovery with helping him find it easier to write. Scott is also a mental health therapist and uses that to inform the self-help aspects of the book.
“So, with this book, I do it with a therapist’s mindset. So, it’s basically what would your therapist want you to know about these places and how I feel that going to these places and really reflecting and stepping in their shoes can help you overcome some of your own obstacles and personal traumas and things that have happened to you and you can improv your life and its I would consider it almost an alternative form of therapy,” said Scott.
The book was released as a ‘concise edition’ on Amazon on Tuesday. The full version is expected around May 2025.
