Move Over, It’s the Law
DULUTH, Minn. — The Minnesota State Patrol looks to crack down on motorists who don’t move over for emergency and maintenance vehicles with activated flashing lights.
Beginning Aug. 31, the Minnesota State Patrol will put effort towards extra enforcement and education of the Mover Over Law.
This Minnesota Law was created in honor of a fallen Minnesota State Trooper Ted Foss, who was stuck and killed by a tractor trailer while conducting a traffic stop in Rochester in 2000.
The agency wants to remind people to be one full lane away from stopped emergency vehicles with flashing lights activated on roads with two or more lanes. If drivers are unable to move over safely, the agency says to reduce speed when passing emergency vehicles on the sides of roads.
