Tobias, UMD Soccer Have ‘Ring Season’ State of Mind
Bulldogs begin regular season Thursday vs. Northern Michigan
DULUTH, Minn.- UMD Senior and Team Captain Anna Tobias is eager to add to her jewelry collection.
Leading up to the 2024 season, Tobias has made an effort to get her teammates energized about her team’s chances. In 2023, the Bulldogs reached their first NSIC Tournament in six years, only to be eliminated in the first round.
However, Tobias wants her team to shoot for higher goals this fall.
“Coach (Greg) Cane, he had me think of a motto for the season,” says Tobias, who has scored 13 goals in her first three years at UMD. “And so, me and the rest of my class thought of ‘Ring Season’. We even had ring pops in the locker room. We want everyone to know that it’s ring season. We’re getting to the tournament, like we did last year, but we’re not stopping last round, we’re going all the way until we get that ring.”
“First of all, she’s probably our biggest bling gal on the team to begin with,” Joked Head Coach Greg Cane. “So, that’s not a surprise coming from her that she’s kind of going the ring route, so I support her wholeheartedly. Last year, we were eighth place. Go from eight to one? I’ll definitely take that, I’m excited to hear that.”
The UMD soccer team will begin their 2024 season on Thursday, September 5 at Malosky Stadium against Northern Michigan.
