Tower Avenue Remodel Updates
SUPERIOR, Wis.– Superior Mayor Jim Paine is moving up plans to overhaul a crumbling section of Tower Avenue.
The redesign and rebuild of this road will be between Belknap down to 28th Street. This project was originally scheduled to start in 2027 or 2028. But Paine said, this fix can’t wait.
Especially with the upcoming closure of the Blatnik Bridge in the works, and eventually making way for a new bridge in the future.
“Basically, this road is in much worse condition than we expected it to be at this point. It is a state highway, so it’s DOT’s responsibility to fix it, but that is scheduled a way out. And they planned to replace it exactly as it is. And we would like to incorporate a lot of design changes to improve the quality of that neighborhood, make the city look nicer. But also, to improve safety.” explained Mayor Jim Paine.
A 1-million-dollar concrete repair project south side of 28th street will get started within the next week. The goal is to stabilize the roadway throughout the winter. The remainder of the construction will follow in the spring.
