Billings Park Unveils New Woodstock Bay
SUPERIOR, Wis.– A once polluted Woodstock Bay in the St. Louis River is now restored for swimming and outdoor recreation.
The new bay features the only boat launch within the 44-00-acre Superior Municipal Forest. This 1.4-million-dollar project encourages visiting the wetlands in the urban setting.
Woodstock Bay is home to unique scenic outlooks, a pavilion, and a canoe landing.
Superior Mayor Jim Paine recalls why this project was needed.
“As a kid in the ’90s, you couldn’t definitely drink the water. You weren’t supposed to eat the fish that came out of the water. You weren’t supposed to go swimming out of it. Which is very different from the generation before me that did grow up swimming in Billings Park. That was lost to them. They lost the river; they lost the bay.” explained Mayor Paine.
The city’s excited to welcome hunters, paddlers, and researchers to take advantage of this unique space.
