Bong Museum Showcases Cloquet Postmaster

SUPERIOR, Wis.– A new exhibit at the Bong Museum features a hidden gem in the army.

The latest addition at the museum is shedding light on postmaster ship in the US Army.
At age 40, after delivering mail in Cloquet Clarence Scheibe joined the army, and was responsible for delivering mail overseas. This ranged from top secret communication to Christmas cards.
This exhibit has been a long time coming, and they’re thrilled to finally unveil it.

“I also wanted to tell the larger story of how important the mail was. You know, that was the only way people could communicate. It was so important for the men overseas and their morale to have that connection to home, and get letters from home, and hear news. And so, he played a big role in that. And I wanted to highlight his service.” said Briana Fiandt, Curator of Collections at the Bong Museum.

Clarence’s daughter is especially thrilled to have others learn his story through this exhibit.
It all started with a trip down memory lane.

“I was excited. Briana and I have been working on this for quite a long time, as I’ve been bringing things over to her. We’ve been working together to get this done. Both of us thought this was a story that really needed to be told.” explained Maggie Schiebe, Clarence’s daughter.

This exhibit was made possible thanks to the help of junior ranger volunteers.
Stay tuned for a more in-depth story on this exhibit tomorrow.
