Cloquet/Carlton Girls Soccer Not Ready to Slow Down

Three-time defending section champions

PROCTOR, Minn.- The Cloquet/Carlton girls soccer team have claimed three straight section 7AA championships, and they have no plans of ending their reign.

The Lumberjacks have started the 2024 season 6-1 overall, giving up only two goals in their seven games. This year’s team is led by nine seniors, along with junior and rising star Lauren Hughes.

What makes them such a dominant force on the pitch? Hughes and Natalia Hernandez say it comes down to chemistry and communication.

Everybody helps everybody on this team, and I think that’s a really good thing to have as a team,” says Hernandez, who has already scored five goals this season. “We’re all comfortable on telling each other and asking each other what we can do to get better.”

“I feel like our team chemistry is pretty good already,” says Hughes, “Just clicking on our touches, our passing, finding those through ball…I feel like we’ll be fine.”

After defeating Hermantown 3-0 on Saturday in Proctor, Cloquet/Carlton is set to host Hibbing/Chisholm Monday night at 7 p.m.
