Public Hearing Mon., Sept. 9 On SWL&P’s Proposed Rate Increases
SUPERIOR, Wis. – Residents in Superior are invited to a public hearing Monday involving rate increases proposed by Superior Water Light and Power (SWL&P).
The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin is hosting the public hearing at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Government Center in Superior, room 270.
The overall proposed increase is 5.9%, or about $7.3 million.
This would include a 2.2% increase in electric rates, 17.1% increase in natural gas and an 18% increase in the price of water.
SWL&P says the proposal allows for investments and upgrades to gas and water distribution systems for long-term safety and reliability.
Inflation and higher interest rates are also a contributing factor for the hike, according to SWL&P.
Superior Mayor Jim Paine is against the increases.
The Public Service commission will ultimately determine the adjusted rates, which could take effect as early as January 2025.
