Volunteers Help Maintain Superior Hiking Trail
DULUTH, Minn. — The Superior Hiking Trail caters to outdoor enthusiasts, and casual hikers alike. That being said, the trail doesn’t magically maintain itself.
A group of dedicated volunteers hit the trails Tuesday to help maintain the Superior Hiking Trail. Lots of work goes into keeping the area up to code, as well as sustainable. Creating rock staircases, and replacing old boards was their task. This project has been going on for one month and is finally being wrapped up. For one of the volunteers, being able to give back is such a rewarding feeling.
“Well, my wife and I really like to hike. We did the entire Superior Hiking Trail over Covid. That was our Covid thing. I’m retired, so I have time to give back to the trail,” said John McDonald, a Superior Hiking Trail volunteer. “Oh, it’s very fulfilling. It’s very fulfilling. We meet a lot of people hiking on the trail as we’re working. And they’re all very appreciative of the work we do.”
The Superior Hiking trail is always in need of volunteers. If this type of work interests you, visit their website to learn more about this opportunity.
