Career Fair Season Back On At UMD
DULUTH, Minn. — Career fair season is officially back at UMD.
On Thursday STEM-Fest took place on campus. 116 employers including local, regional, and national all available to speak with students. It included different fields from medical, civil engineering and the FBI. The career fair is open to all students.
“What’s really exciting is that we see students from their first year of college to senior year. So, those first-year students, sophomores can come and just learn a little more from employers maybe about different industries. And then those juniors and seniors have the opportunity to actually get that internship or job after graduation,” said Susan Hudec, Employer Engagement Assistant Director.
One student works at the career center helping students with their future. This is his advice to all who attend.
“Just going out there and putting youself out there you know just handing people your resume, telling them what you’re interested in. What your experience is so far, and just try and put your name out there while you’re early in your career whether you’re a freshman or a sophomore. Or you’re a junior looking for internships or a senior looking for a job. Just be willing to put yourself out there is a big big thing with these,” said Alexander Abalos, Mechanical Engineering student.
More career fairs this fall include a business fair at UMD and a health and human services fair at St. Scholastica.
