Duluth Public Library Program Brings Childcare Providers Together
DULUTH, Minn. — The Duluth Public Library hosted an event on Monday to bring childcare providers together.
It is part of the Play and Learn for Family, Friend, and Neighbor Caregivers program. The goal is to try and provide more money, resources and opportunities for these informal providers. This program gives providers a chance to meet others like them. And also learn about resources such as the library that can be a great place to bring kids. Staff at the library say there is a big childcare shortage in the area and many parents rely on grandparents, cousins, or other family members and friends to watch their kids.
“So, a lot of times these FFN care providers, are sometimes they’re unpaid, you know they don’t have the same opportunities and funding that an actual childcare provider would have to get resources, to provide programs and activities for their children,” said Carmella Hatch, Early Literacy Coordinator.
Everyone who attends these free events receives free books, supplies, and snacks. It is provided in part by the State of Minnesota with the support of the Northland Foundation.
