Gov. Evers Visits UWS

Gov. Evers continues tour of public universities

SUPERIOR, Wis. – Another governor made a stop in the northland today.

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers visited the University of Wisconsin Superior as part of his state-wide tour of public universities. Evers met with students, toured the school’s nearly complete stadium, and discussed his plans to address funding shortfalls within the UW school system. According to the Wisconsin Policy Forum, the state ranks 43rd in the nation for per-student funding.

“My goal and the Board of Regents actually supported it too recently, is to put in our budget about $800 million to really jump start this effort,” Evers said to reporters.

Wisconsin technical colleges, on the other hand, rank 5th for per-student funding. Evers says his proposed $800 million would not impact funding for the other system of schools.

“We need both of those systems to be healthy,” Evers said, “Tech colleges are in good place.”
