Monday Morning Northland Forecast: 9/16/2024

Sunny Monday

This is the final week of astronomical summer, which differs from meteorological summer. Astronomical seasons are based on the position of the Earth in relation to the sun. Meteorological seasons are based on the annual temperature cycle. So, meteorological summer ended on August 30th. Astronomical summer will end with the autumnal equinox, which arrives Sunday. So, this coming Sunday, summer will definitely be over!

However, it will still feel like summer for the next several days. While the average high for today is 67 degrees, we are going to be around 82 degrees for a high today, and about 80 on Tuesday. We will begin to cool down Wednesday thru Friday, with highs in the upper and mid 70s. By the time we get to Sunday, we will be looking at highs in the mid 60s. We finally get some decent chances for rain beginning on Friday. At this point, the chances for rain are about 40% to 50% from Friday thru Sunday. While, that’s not a sure thing, those are some of the best opportunities for rain we’ve had in weeks. Let’s cross our fingers we get some moisture.

So, no matter which ‘summer’ you go by, make sure to make the most of the warm temps in the next few days. It may be a long time before we see highs in the 80s again!
