After Heartbreaking Loss, UMD Football Looks to Bounce Back at UMary

UMD will look to extend their all-time record to 17-0 against UMary.

DULUTH, Minn.- For the first time since 1999, the UMD football team is coming off a loss to Minnesota State-Moorhead.

A heartbreaker of a defeat that saw the Dragons win on the final play of the game on Saturday.

Tuesday, signaled the start of a new work week for the team as they prepare for their upcoming contest against the UMary Marauders.

Head Coach Curt Wiese admitted that it’s still tough thinking about Saturday’s contest. But added, they need to move on and prepare for a much better UMary squad than a year before.

“I think when you have a loss early in the season it can do two things. It can motivate you or put doubt in your head. I’m hoping it motivates us to come out today and this week to get to work and go against a much improved Mary team right now that’s also 1-2. It was a tough Sunday, really tough Saturday. Obviously a lot of emotions going on in the game, pregame, postgame, everything else. You have to tip your hat to Moorhead and wish them the best of luck down the road,” said Wiese.

Even with the loss, the confidence and the goal aspirations of the team are still there.

“Obviously that left a really sour taste in our mouth. You know coach said just flush it. We still have a chance to win this thing and take it all the way so we’re just going to do that. Come out and play Bulldog football,” added wide receiver DaShaun Ames.

UMD will look to extend their all-time record to 17-0 against the Marauders. They also shut out Mary by 46 in their last meeting in 2023.

Kickoff is set for 2 PM on Saturday in Bismarck.
