UW-Superior Opens Fall Theatre Auditions Up To St. Scholastica Students
SUPERIOR, Wis. — St. Scholastica students will again have the opportunity to participate in theatre, after their longtime program came to a close at the end of last year.
The college community was up in arms after the cut was announced, leaving student thespians without their creative outlet. But after cooperating with the University of Wisconsin Superior, the university is opening its fall auditions up to CSS students.
“We’re really excited to be reached out to over the summer by some of the St Scholastica students whose program was displaced at the end of last year. They’re still really passionate about the performing arts and getting on stage, and I was just really touched by that entire community’s sort of efforts to keep theater alive over there. And we just want to do what we can to encourage young people to get involved in performing arts, and theater in particular. So, we’re really happy to open our doors wide to our Twin Ports community,” said Sean Naughton, UWS Theatre Director.
CSS students who experienced the end of theatre at their school, are also excited to still participate in the art they love.
“In the moment, obviously heartbreaking, but something cool that we’re able to do this year is get our theater club up and running again. And right now, we’re just trying to get back up on our feet, but in the next coming semester, we actually plan to put on a production of our own. And for that, we’re super grateful for the support of both UWS during this time, but also the support of Scholastica to get it, get it up and running again,” said Miranda Nelson and Emmie Hinnenkamp, CSS students.
