Northern Star: Alex Schott
Third season as Hermantown's starting quarterback
HERMANTOWN, Minn.- Experience can often be hard to come by at the quarterback position in high school football, but Alex Schott is a rare exception for the Hermantown Hawks.
“You got your Peyton Mannings of the world, you got your Tom Bradys, and that was always kind of who I looked up to, and kind of wanted to always be in that QB leadership role, and I think worked out nicely,” smiled Schott, who is in his third season leading the Hawks’ offense under center.
Now in his final season at Hermantown, Schott says he’s ready to put everything he’s learned into use.
“I’ve been out here going through the same plays last three years and being able to feel comfortable and kind of see the field and every year kind of build(ing) on that,” Schott explained. “And I think this year, it’s been big. I’ve been comfortable out on the field. I’m nice and relaxed, and I think that leads to a lot better performance out of me and everyone else.”
“He’s a great teammate, of course,” says Aidan Adamski, a senior running back for Hermantown. “He’s kind of a leader on and off the field, and he really brings a team together both sides of the ball.”
Adamski transferred to Hermantown this offseason after playing for Two Harbors through his junior year. Even as a newcomer to the Hawks, he was quick to notice Schott’s impact on their offense.
“It all starts with him,” says Adamski. “I mean, he gets the ball, so he tells us where to go. He’s a leader, truly. So, I wouldn’t know what to do without him.”
Adamski has provided a jolt to the Hawks’ offense with his powerful running style. Add that to Schott’s refined poise behind center, and you have a recipe that could lead to Hermantown’s first section title since 2018.
“Everyone’s all bought into the process here. No one complains about lifts, no one complains about running. It’s just everyone is excited to be here,” says Schott. “And I think everyone knows deep down, there’s something special going here, and that’s makes it fun to be out here.”
Hermantown (2-1) will travel to Grand Rapids on Saturday to face the Thunderhawks (2-1). The Hawks’ 2024 regular season schedule continues with Rock Ridge, Duluth East, Esko and Duluth Denfeld.
