After Successful Road Trip, UMD Football Turns Attention to Southwest Minnesota State
UMD owns a 29-7-1 all-time record against Southwest.
DULUTH, Minn.- The UMD football team was looking to bounce back this past Saturday as they traveled to play UMary.
And that they did, as they dominated in all facets of the game en route to a 43 to 7 thumping.
The Bulldogs now turn the page to another team they’ve had success against in recent years.
And that’s the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs, who UMD has won nine of their last ten against.
Head Coach Curt Wiese says coming off a near perfect game, the team needs to build off of it and avoid taking steps back.
“It’s important for our guys to focus on ourselves and improve and aspire to play a better game than we did the week before. We always have respect for every opponent. In the same sense, we understand Southwest is reaching to try to get better each week too. So it’s our job to focus on ourselves, have a good gameplan in place. Southwest does give some different things upfront on both sides of the football that we haven’t seen this year. So, those are the things we’ll focus on this week,” said Wiese.
The Bulldogs were led last week by linebacker Andrew Klopp on the defensive side of the ball as he had five tackles, two and a half tackles for losses, and one and a half sacks.
He says when facing a team like the Mustangs you can’t overlook anything.
“I mean every week is different. You have to prepare the same. This is college football so you know every team is going to be able to beat you, so you never take anyone lightly. Homecoming we’re going to have the juices flowing a little bit so we’ll have a good crowd. Kind of excited to get that going,” said Klopp.
