FDLTCC Announces Changes to Law Enforcement Program
The program will now be called the Criminal Justice/Peace Officer program
CLOQUET, Minn. – Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College is changing the name of its Law Enforcement program, to the Criminal Justice/Peace Officer program.
The new name is just one of several changes made to the program, that the school says will reflect the modern changes in how officers serve their communities.
The program’s coordinator, and former Duluth Police Chief, Mike Tusken said FDLTCC made improvements to their curriculum that will equip officers to handle a variety of situations, including mental health crises.
“First responders have the skill sets to know how to identify mental health crises, substance abuse issues, and then also to have the tools to de-escalate and to improve the outcomes. And so, that’s part of what we’ve done, when we looked at our program and retooled it.”
According to Tusken, the largest employer of their program’s graduates is the Duluth Police Department.
