Thursday Morning Northland Forecast: 9/26/2024

Sunny Thursday

No matter where you live on this planet, there will be some kind of natural hazard you will have to deal with. Up here, we have thunderstorms, tornadoes, blizzards, snow, ice, heat and cold. In Florida, they don’t have most of those things, but they do have occasional hurricanes some years. Right now, Hurricane Helene is menacingly moving toward Tallahassee, Florida. It’s currently a category 3 storm, but it may grow stronger by the time it makes landfall, later today. Top winds right now are about 115mph, and it’s heading northeast at about 15mph. They are expecting a storm surge of 10-15 feet, and up to 12″ of rain. While we bemoan the fact that we are about 3″ below normal rainfall as we end September with sunny skies and 80 degree highs, the folks in Florida would eagerly trade forecasts with us!

Our current weather, brought to us by an enormous area of high pressure, will take us right through the upcoming weekend. Look for sunshine from now til next week, with highs around 80 today and tomorrow, and highs in the 70s this weekend. By next week, we will finally start cooling down, and the high on Tuesday is only going to be about 58 degrees. The average high for today is 63. So, come next week, we will actually be a little bit below normal, temperature-wise.

So, compared to a Category 3 hurricane, I’m feeling pretty good about sunshine and a high of 80. Enjoy!
