UMD Football to Hit Road for Playoff-Like Matchup Against Augustana

UMD has won their last 11 against Augustana, including a 34 to 24 victory back in November of 2022.

DULUTH, Minn.- It was a weekend to remember for Curt Wiese and his UMD football team.

In the Bulldogs 62 to nothing drubbing of Southwest Minnesota State, Wiese picked up his 100th career win at UMD.

That was made possible thanks to a suffocating defense that tied a program-high 10 sacks and an offense that had over 500 total yards.

Coach Wiese, who becomes the 3rd coach in program history to reach 100 wins at UMD, says he was proud of Saturday’s performance because once the 1st stringers were done, the 2nd and 3rd stringers picked up where they left off.

“I’ve been fortunate to be around a lot of good players and took over a program that had a lot of history and a culture of winning and have been fortunate to work with a lot of assistant coaches that have helped us do that. 100 wins is a lot of wins, obviously proud of that but the credit has to go to everybody that’s around the program. It was fun to get it in a 62 to nothing win, proud of the way our guys played. I though they competed all day long. It was great to see our two’s and three’s and some of our young kids come in and continue to play hard, play sound football throughout the rest of the game,” said Wiese.

The pressure cranks up a little bit this week as UMD hits the road to face Augustana, another 2-1 team in the NSIC that has hopes to play after the regular season ends.

“They’re going to be coming out firing coming off a loss. They want to get back in the win column forsure. It’s going to be a playoff game for both teams. Probably whoever doesn’t win this game isn’t going to be in the playoffs. They’re definitely going to come out firing. They’re always a physical defense, I’ve seen it on film all year. Super physical, play the same defense they’ve been playing so we’re excited to scheme them up and get going,” added tight end Sam Pitz.

UMD has won their last 11 against Augustana, including a 34 to 24 victory back in November of 2022.

Kick-off is at 1 PM on Saturday in Sioux Falls.
