Two Areas Of Cultural Concern Remain Within Twin Ports Interchange Project
DULUTH, Minn. — The Minnesota Indian Affairs Council continues to investigate two sites of cultural significance within the Twin Ports Interchange Project.
One of the sites is in Lincoln Park along West Superior Street where Indigenous human remains were discovered in early 2023.
The other location of cultural concern is at Garfield Avenue near the base of the Blatnik Bridge. That’s why a section of I-535, which connects to the Blatnik Bridge is still missing. Bypass lanes have been temporarily made to and from the Blatnik.
MnDOT says it expects the two locations be completed by this time next year. Check out MnDOT’s website for detailed updates.
