DULUTH, Minn.– Advocates for employee fairness and wellness met at Duluth City Hall Friday to hold a rally in support of front-line workers.

Dozens of workers and supporters with AFSCME were rallying for fair wages, benefits and working conditions.

They say these workers are the backbone of the city and deserve a fair contract that reflects their contributions.

Officials participating in this rally said this event is necessary.

“I feel like they’re not being labor friendly. Labor friendly employers do not offer gutting our sick leave. We’re going to sit down with the employer and hopefully they will come back with a proposal that we can negotiate with,” said Wendy Wohland, Local 66 President.

FOX 21 received a statement from the City of Duluth regarding this rally.

“The City of Duluth has over 900 employees and works with seven collective bargaining units. The administration supports organized labor and is proud of City staff and the work they do. The administration stands in support of their civil rights to organize, petition, and freely express themselves.”

AFSCME is one of the nation’s leading advocates for public service workers.
